Austria is famed for its love of coffee, pastries and cakes; perhaps the most famous being 'Sachertorte, a chocolate cake filled with apricot jam, and apple strudel. A typical national dish is Knödel, home-made dumplings usually paired with meat dishes such as goulash and vegetables.

What to see and do in Styria

Murau

A hidden treasure in the Mur Valley is perfect for sightseeing. Marvel at the 13th century castle, the Gothic church and the Leonhard Temple. The European Shakespeare Days festival is held here every July, with performances in English.

Klagenfurt

Historic Klagenfurt set in the beautiful location of lake WÖrthersee makes it a very popular tourist town. Guided walking tours are offered free of charge by the Department of Tourism in Klagenfurt.
